Maria Ho and Lupe Soto have cemented their places in female poker history by being voted into the Women in Poker Hall of Fame, joining the illustrious list of 17 predecessors who have been celebrated for their 'excellence, contribution and performance' over the past decade.
Designed to 'honor women in poker who have acquired prominence and have made contributions to the poker world' the WiPHOF started life back in 2008 and this year the now biannual ceremony will see Ho and Soto join famous poker females such as Barbara Enright, Jennifer Harman, Kathy Liebert and Victoria Coren Mitchell on the hallowed walls of ‘the Hall'.
Maria Ho
Ho said she was 'deeply humbled' by her selection for the honour, at the same time congratulating her fellow inductee for this summer's ceremony.
Taiwan-born Ho is among the leading female players in the world, as well as being a noted commentator and writer on the game. With over $2.7million in cashes and half a dozen 6-figure wins, Ho has become a staple of the game at its highest level.
Lupe Soto
For many, the fact that Lupe Soto wasn't already in the Hall of Fame came as a surprise, having to explain to Kara Scott that she'd been rather busy…
Lupe Soto actually founded the Women in Poker Hall of Fame in 2008 and a decade later found herself nominated for the second time running to join it permanently for her contributions to poker. She also serves as CEO of Poker Gives, a nonprofit charity serving military families, which is the WiPHOF's chosen charity.
When the 11 nominees were named last month, Soto said:
'The ballot this year was filled with some of the most respected and well deserving women in the game. All of them should hold a place in the Hall and I'm sure one day soon, they will!'
Jennifer Tilly was among those who nominated, but despite missing out this time she tweeted her congratulations to Ho and Soto…
The 2018 Induction Ceremony will take place on Tuesday, June 26th, at the Orleans Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, tickets to the event going on sale May 1st.
